AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

The automatic transmission is responsible for transferring the power of the engine to the driving wheels.  Transmissions have to constantly work to adapt to speed, load and road conditions.  The fluid in your transmission is an important part of the effectiveness and health of your transmission.  It is like the oil for your engine – they both need regular filter and fluid replacement.

Over time, the fluid becomes contaminated.  It breaks down through heat and needs regular replacement.  Clean transmission fluid is bright red or clear and has a clean sweet smell.  If the fluid is dark, murky or smells burnt, it will most likely require flushing as well.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICE:

Your automatic’s transmission is one of the most expensive components in your vehicle.  We recommend regular servicing of all automatic transmissions to ensure the longevity of your vehicle’s life and to avoid costly repairs. A typical service includes an electronic diagnostic test, removing the pan, cleaning the magnets, replace or clean the filter, new oil and pan gasket and road testing. A report on the health of your transmission is always supplied with a transmission service performed in our workshop.

 Our experts usually have a good idea of the health of your transmission just from gathering the list of symptoms.  For minor symptoms, our diagnostic process is to typically start with a transmission service as it is a really good place to start as it gives us a good look at the oil and a view into the pan and filter (if there is one).   More major symptoms are evaluated and diagnosed on a case by case situation.
